About this deal

Essentially it boils down to the fact that we would be happy to use them as studio monitors if we had to. The additional customization options are also very neat. KRK have been at the top of the nearfield monitor game for a while, so we are now into the 4 th generation of Rokit speaker. What kinds of improvements can we expect on the industry standard? Well, here’s a brief rundown of what’s relative to all of the G4 monitors:

The studio monitor lineup features the Rokit 5 G4, Rokit 7 G4, Rokit 8 G4, and the Rokit 10-3 G4. Each number represents the particular model’s woofer size in inches. I also tested these monitors in my untreated bedroom and found the versatility of the Visual EQ to be a massive help in achieving a sound I could work with within a less-than-ideal space. There are primarily two different positions for ports to be made in a speaker, in the rear, and in the front. Conventional wisdom has it that the speakers that have a port in the rear normally provide more bass than other types of speakers. I remember using the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 speakers a few years ago, a pair of rear-ported speakers. At times the monitors seemed a bit too saturated with bass. This is a phenomenon shared with the Rokit 5 G3s, which have a particularly prominent bass.

Instantly Recognizable in Any Studio

The speakers them selves are very delicate so if you have children or a cat/animal that can get to them they can be easily damaged suggest keeping at high points away from reach of anyone other than you. Having the option for intricate EQ customization is a rare gem in the budget professional monitor innovation market, but here we are. To shape the high end, KRK built a peak, and shelving EQ. The High Shelf allows for cuts of -2dB at 10 kHz. The other option allows for using both the High Peak and High Shelf filters in tandem.

To get the most out of them, do not hesitate to use the KRK positioning manual. The company’s manual specifies the optimal position in terms of height and placement angle to get out the most balanced sound experience; this is always a critical factor in achieving the optimal listening experience and achieving the sound that was intended by its design. The next important studio monitor change is in the matching woofer composition of the KRK Rokit 5 G4 models. The G3 speaker’s woofers were made of Glass Aramid, whereas the G4 version comes equipped with woofers and tweeters made from Kevlar. These are vital to any home studio monitor, as they help in reducing the vibrations coming from the monitors. If untreated, these can bleed through into the professional monitor stands or onto the desk. To wrap this up - if you're a tall bastard like me (196cm), it is worth noting that monitors would be best suited on stands.Sure, they’re never going to compete with the big speakers found in professional music studios; however, if you’re looking to get off your headphones and onto monitors, look no further than these KRK Rokit 5’s. That allows for a good amount of experimenting, but it does not give users the choice to boost or cut frequencies completely as they please. Because the low-drivers are 5'', you cannot hear the sub-bass that much (as in 6'' or 8'' woofers). The Low Peak filter allows users to cut -2dB at the 200 Hz range, focusing on a wider dynamics EQ range. According to KRK, this is an option designed to lessen the impact of possible desk reflections. However, with decent powered studio monitors, there shouldn’t be a need for dialing in drastic EQ changes anyhow.

The updated KRKs now feature a DSP Room Correction Tuning EQ, which allows users to fine-tune the spectral settings to have their monitor’s sound productions right in a multitude of scenarios. That is not the case with the Rokits, and it is very handy that KRK has this function on point. EQ Customization KRK explains that this too adds enhanced sound qualities, which translates to improved clarity of overall listening experience. Key Features Credit: KRK Systems Other than that, the G4 now has an actual LCD screen located on the rear panel. It took the place of the previous version’s volume and EQ knobs. Also, the punchiness that comes out of the monitors gives the balnaced sound a nice heft to it. That seems to be a common benefit of smaller speakers. What particular manufacturer is for you will come down to audio integrity and aesthetic taste differences. Without showing too much bias, know that it is worth doing your research on what is available, and ideally, listen to the options at a local store. You can remedy sonic integrity anomalies, or just make them sound balanced according to your taste. A boost option also features the combo EQ which includes a +1dB boost at the mentioned frequencies, as well as a High Shelf boost of +2dB in the 10 kHz region. Moving up in size, the KRK Rokit RP7 increases the enclosure size and uses a 7” woofer. There are now 145 watts of power available, with a maximum sound pressure level of 110dB. Most smaller studio spaces (and not so small!) won’t need any more than this. BUT - you do need to put these monitors in appropriate places. I have seen horrible monitors placements and what you are hearing is simply not what it is. My monitors are maybe 30cm away from me, they are perfect, however, they SHOULD be at your head-level or close to it.
