About this deal

A long battery life of approximately 380-shots per charge ensures you the power you need when on the go. Should you run out of juice, USB charging is available to give you a power boost no matter where you are. In terms of key operational features, if you do end up using the Panasonic Lumix ZS80’s EVF, you’ll find that it features an impressive 2.3 million dots of resolution, this improved spec being one of the very few differences indeed between this model and the earlier TZ90. The view via the display itself is best described as life-like on the ZS80.

Recording stops when the continuous recording time exceeds 29 minutes and 59 seconds with [MP4] in [FHD] [HD] and [High Speed Video].With smartphones putting in more impressive performances these days, you’re going to have to think long and hard about whether a dedicated camera such as this is right for you. Still, if you don’t have an advanced smartphone, or zooming is what you crave, it remains a good option. Post Focus - You can select the frame you want in camera, and use the touch-screen to choose the focus point, saving the individual frame as a JPEG image. This feature works better on cameras with a larger sensor such as the Panasonic Lumix GX9that has a shallower depth of field. 4K Photo - shoots at 30fps, you can then select the frame you want in camera later and save the individual frame as a JPEG image.

The model also offers the same battery life as before, which is 380 frames (according to CIPA measurement). That's perfectly decent for a camera of this sort, and way ahead of some competitors.

As well as the new vlogger tools, older models to compare and contrast with the TZ95 include the Canon PowerShot SX740 HS. This boasts a similar form factor yet has a broader focal range courtesy of a whopping 40x optical zoom. Just like the Panasonic it offers a 20.3 megapixel 1/2.3-inch sensor, and under ideal daylight conditions provides color-rich, punchy images requiring little if any image adjustment afterward. f = 4.3 - 129mm/(24 - 720mm in 35mm equiv. in 4:3)/(25 - 750mm in 35mm equiv. in 3:2)/(26 - 780mm in 35mm equiv. in 16:9)/(28 - 840mm in 35mm equiv. in 1:1)/(35 - 1050mm in 35mm equiv. in 4K PHOTO recording)/(35 - 1050mm in 35mm equiv. in 4K video recording)/(26 - 780mm in 35mm equiv. in 16:9 video recording / O.I.S. One of our main gripes about the ZS70's viewfinder was its size, so this update, while modest, is definitely a welcome one. Colour reproduction was particularly pleasing, outdoors, in good weather, with bright saturated colours. Indoors there was a tendency for images to have a yellow (warm) tone, which may or may not be to everyone's liking, however you can now use the "AWB Cool" option if you'd prefer more neutral results. Noise is visible, even when shooting at the lowest ISO speeds when viewing images at 100%, and this can reduce detail, however, the effect is quite "film" like. Unfortunately the flash is in a position where your forefinger can very easily obscure it when gripping the camera with the right hand – so that’s something you need to be aware of, especially when handing the camera to someone else to take your picture, as well one might when travelling. Nestled next to the lens meanwhile, where it is out of the way of stray fingertips, is a familiar AF assist /self timer lamp. The Travel Zoom (TZ) range has defined the category making the range one of the perfect travelling accessories to have.Bridge cameras offer impressive zoom capabilities. Ranging anywhere from around 40x optical zoom, to over 120x, an equivalent optical zoom on a DSLR or mirrorless camera would need a 3000mm lens!

Another benefit of using the TZ95 over your smartphone is the viewfinder and screen combination, which provides different options depending on how you like to shoot. Enthusiasts will be pleased to note the manual and semi-automatic options here (it also shoots in Raw format), while point-and-shooters are catered for by automatic and scene modes.

If we’ve a grumble, however, it’s that this isn’t perhaps a camera for shooting in very low light, especially if handheld, as we discovered on our travels, whereby the effects of camera shake are obvious. The fact that the ISO range tops out at a modest selectable ISO3200 at least means that the worst effects of image noise are avoided – we’d advise shooting up to ISO1600, however and leaving it at that, if you want to avoid a noticeable softening and degradation of the image entirely. Twenty megapixels is quite a lot to cram onto a 1/2.3-inch sensor – it’s probably the most you’d want to – so inevitably something has to give. Up until recently, standalone compact cameras like the ZS80 have been increasingly thin on the ground. But now some manufacturers have decided that cameras with built-in lenses could be somewhat re-purposed as tools for the new wave of content creators – see alternatives including the Sony ZV-1, ZV-1 II, and ZV-1F - and Canon’s quirky PowerShot V10– Tripods with Head Tripod Heads Video Heads Ball Heads Three Way Heads Specialist & Gimbal Heads Tripod Legs Tripod Accessories Mini Tripods & Clamps I also found that using time sync lost summer time on my camera, so it became an hour wrong! I hadn't set summer time in the main menu.) Battery life is a claimed 380 images per charge, which is fair and allows you to easily fill up the SD media card in use, which also slots into the base of the TZ95, particularly if shooting Raw and JPEGs in tandem. The camera, like many of its ilk, can be charged via its USB port.
