About this deal

The first time I ever saw a Tamiya Hornet in action was also the first time I ever saw a Tamiya. I think I was about 8 or 9 years old and my family had been invited to some kind of dinner party at a friend’s house. The friends in question were fairly well known people in the town where I lived, so there were quite a lot of people at this party – maybe 50 or so. The well-loved form of the model is created in a durable and lightweight polycarbonate body and wing

Building a Tamiya RC car kit not only hones one's technical skills but also offers a deeper understanding of the mechanics and engineering principles behind these machines. The Hornet and Grasshopper are two of Tamiya’s oldest two-wheel RC buggy produced in 1984. They are both fast and rugged and even share 90% similarities in their components. Please note: These ‘ready to run bundles’ includes everything you need to operate this model once the kit is built. This is a kit which will require building. This model comes with a clear shell. OTHER

The body is polycarbonate (clear) and will need to be painted on the inside with a particular type of paint, you would need to add that to your cost. Tamiya's commitment to quality extends beyond the cars themselves. They also offer a wide selection of spare parts, upgrades, and maintenance tools, ensuring that enthusiasts can keep their RC cars in top condition. Additionally, Tamiya provides excellent customer support, with detailed documentation, online resources, and a dedicated community of fellow hobbyists who readily offer advice and assistance. Inside the kit, the Hornet is a relatively simple model to build. It’s a 1/10 scale 2WD utilising a bathtub chassis, to which everything else connects.

N.B. The bodyshell supplied is clear polycarbonate and requires painting (a full set of decals are included). I guess I wanted the LiPo to get the most speed and power out of the thing , but again it's one of those things that I can upgrade down the line I suppose? I actually don’t have a built Hornet worthy of display just yet, so this article will feature images of one of my new-in-box original kits…Just like the original, this re-release features an easy to assemble chassis and drivetrain. The Hornet is perfect for those that used to have one, those that have always wanted one, and for those that want a revolutionary buggy that has earned its place in R/C history. Since then, the Grasshopper Kit has undergone a remake twice, in 2005 and 2018, with the new model looking different from the original. Tamiya Hornet

Read more: Is Tamiya Good Quality? | We’ve Got One Giant on The Table Comparison Between Tamiya Hornet and The Grasshopper To me though, there’s actually another golden era within that first 100, and it consists mainly of a group of early off-road buggies that were actually inspired by animal concepts and symbolism (plus a few buggies either side of this period). Broadly, you might refer to these buggies as “character cars” due to the fact they came in eye-catching shapes, colours, and with quirky decals and unusual names.diff gear loaded sealed gearbox, oil filled rear dampers, powerful RS 540 motor and high performance suspension system. Mating the gearbox with the chassis. What's up with those weird tiny springs?? Plus, I greased the moving parts just as suggested in the manual, even the slots for the rolling rear axle. Not that great for actual running in dirt, as I found out later. The only downside to the Hornet is that it doesn’t have a longer runtime like the Grasshopper. How fast is the Tamiya Hornet?
