About this deal

What motivated him to get into the field was his grandmother who lived to 92, with the last decade of her life not being a good one. Ladies: I tell you: that accounts for why suddenly at nine o’clock at night I’m heated up and ten minutes later I’m breaking out in a cold sweat. I chose them because they came at the topic of longevity from very different directions and I thought having an eclectic mixture of books would be the most interesting approach.

In non-cancerous tissue, our genes produce active tumour suppressors and inactive proto-oncogenes (in other words, more of what helps you and less of what hurts you. But diving into the emerging longevity industry – the same ambitious sector aiming to defy aging, delay the onset of various diseases, and extend healthy human lifespans – is no easy task. What she discovered is that in the cortex, the thinking part of the brain, humans have three times as many neurons or brain cells as elephants do, which is remarkable. Diaz and Bark authored The Body Book, which is information about nutrition, exercise and cultivating strong habits, along with some of the latest scientific insights about overall physical health. You can glean some incredible insights from this book about how these people lived their lives and how you, too, can develop a natural defense against some of nature's nastiest maladies. Throughout these pages the authors effectively explain stem cells, disease risk factors, genes, cells, the immune system, nutrition and menopause. I just recently finished reading “ The Longevity Book: The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength and the Privilege of Time,” by Cameron Diaz, with Sandra Bark, which is a follow-up to “The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength and Other Amazing Ways to Love Your Body” — a book I totally enjoyed. Steven Austad is a professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Travel, learn new languages, take up new hobbies, listen to music — all of these things give our brains the chance to build new valuable connections.

The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal.
