About this deal

Upper class English rose Redgrave and spikey American goth Wilhoite find themselves linked by a house: Wilhoite through a pre-adoption childhood she can’t remember, and Redgrave by the nightmares the house is giving her. It was simply about her work, so that was the best time ever and actually probably one of the main reasons I wanted to take on the role. She gives an energetic, spirited performance and her name at the top of the cast will hopefully attract a younger audience which otherwise might not have been attracted by the subject matter. When she is finally granted the opportunity to create her own work, she revolutionises the industry with standout pieces and with her iconic Art Deco series Bizarre, but her journey isn’t a smooth ride by any means.

Matthew Goode does another good turn as her boss, who in real life actually became her husband later down the line. We wanted to do it as a thank you to all the local artists and extras who took part, and as soon as we broached the idea the Mitchell Arts Centre and Caspian Films were more than happy to help. Palace only had distribution rights to a lot of their hit titles (like the aforementioned Evil Dead and Hills Have Eyes) which is why they’re still available with no problem, having been picked up again by others. A drive-in B-movie classic, in which dysfunctional teen Landon starts attending hypnotherapy sessions to cure him of his antisocial tendencies. Inspired by the life of pioneering ceramicist Clarice Cliff, The Colour Room dives into 1920s Stoke-on-Trent, the heart of England’s pottery manufacturing industry.Despite resistance, Clarice Cliff persisted in suggesting her ideas while working on the factory floor in potteries. Clarice Cliff was the working-class girl who left school at 13 destined for a life of menial work in the Staffordshire potteries; instead she rose to become a celebrated ceramicist. Possibly to do with the bankruptcy of studio New World, although that hasn’t stopped other New World titles (Hellraiser, House, The Punisher) from reaching DVD. The 1974 Robert Redford version got a bit of a revival in the wake of Baz Luhrmann’s recent film, but nobody much talked about this one. The saying goes that the best golfing movie ever made is Caddyshack, and the worst is Caddyshack II.

Fighting for her revolutionary ideas in the industrial British midlands in the midst of Great Depression, consequently saved the factory she worked in, earning her the title of one of the greatest Art Deco designers. Mysterious, sorcerous stranger Glaeken Trismegestus (Scott Glenn) arrives to save the day with a light show. Her talent wins Clarice an apprentice to renowned art designer Fred Ridgeway (David Morrissey) and she moves on to design the Art Deco Bizarre range with the support of Colley and the other women in the factory. We’re very much in a time, thankfully, that things are changing for women in general: we suddenly have this poster child from the past.

They had come to prominence, and their father was sort of a self-made man in the mid-nineteenth century when he started [the factory] and the boys took it over with varying degrees of success. Clarice Cliff breaks the glass ceiling and revolutionizes the workplace at a pottery factory in 1920s England. Based on a true story, The Colour Room is the first major role for Phoebe Dynevor since starring in Netflix Regency-era hit Bridgerton.

Instead of mastering one skill to improve her earnings, she started one apprenticeship as an enameller, and then another as a lithographer at another factory to learn different aspects of production. The grime, dirt and danger of The Potteries is re-created to the extent that you can almost taste the dirt in your mouth right from the outset.

Darci Shaw says: "Dot has her own identity as a Paintress at Wilkinsons, she does contrast Clarice in the sense of what they want their lives to be. The story mashes up Arthur Conan Doyle’s A Scandal In Bohemia and The Final Problem with some other weird embellishments and a Holmes who’s nothing really like Holmes. You can imagine that for many people of the time Clarice Cliff's designs would have been seen as bizarre or controversial along with the fact that it was a woman and she wasn't taking no for an answer. She runs away, but gets dragged into an obsessive relationship with gangster/pimp Cholo (D’Onofrio), centred mostly on dancing, with an occasional bit of violence for that extra frisson. So Clarice gets her promotion, working under a sensitive art director (nicely played by David Morrissey).

All the characters I’ve played, I don’t know whether that’s being a young woman in this industry, but they are all very aware of themselves and whether that’s because they want to find a husband or because they are the ingenue, whatever that is, I’ve never played a role that wasn’t about that - 18 -at all.
