The Eurohike Rydal 500 on the other hand is less expensive, although less attractive in its features. It could be a great budget tent though that could last for 2-3 camping seasons. The is perfect and after putting it up in the garden the kids wanted to use it for a week in Wales, it stood up to some good old fashioned Welsh weather with no leaking and has plenty of room for us. Erects as one piece with pre-attached guylines – for easy pitching. There are only 3 poles, so with a bit of practice, pitching time can easily stay under 15 minutes. Maybe it’s worth mentioning, that the Vango Icarus 500 dlx is erected ‘flysheet first’, meaning that the bedrooms, that are not waterproof, stay under the protective and waterproof flysheet. This comes extremely handy when you need to pitch the Vango Icarus 500 dlx in rain. We've just downsized from the Coleman Magellan 9 man Tent to this, was looking for something that would fit the 4 of us in comfortably, 2 adults & 2 kids (8 & 11) but that wasn't as time consuming to put up and down if only staying for one night. Absolutely love this tent. We've had ours since 2012 and it caters for my wife and I, along with our three children with considerable ease. That being said, we use self inflating mats rather than airbeds and only take what we need. If you're the kind of family that brings everything and the kitchen sink, you'll probably only manage four people at the very most.

Regards the problem of the sloping door letting water in when coming in and out we got an adventure tarp for the front to solve this problem and can be used on the tent or awning front door or with some hocus pocus and fiddling the side door if needed. I kept the king poles from my old tent and they make a great porch out of the door if you want to. To regulate the temperature inside the tent, the Icarus 500 DLX has plenty of ventilation vents, as well as full mesh front and side doors (and half mesh bedroom doors). The Icarus 500 was our first large head-height tent. We bought it in 2012 and have only just replaced it this year. We used it every year in Ireland and for the last 3 years it also served us well on our trips to France. Me and the wife love this tent it is very easy to put up and take down, looks good and is very roomy for just the two of us, we use campbeds with air beds bunge roped together to stop it slipping and there is loads of room in the bedroom for clothes, bags, and a small side table. We sat through 14 hrs of rain one night and did not see one leak and felt very cozy inside.The Vango Icarus 500 has proven throughout the years, and is still a great value for money family tent. It is inexpensive, has plenty of accessories and versatile enough to serve the whole family, providing more than enough space, comfort, and weather protection. Icarus flew towards the sun and this tent is also aiming high. Easy to pitch, ‘as one’ structure with generous living area, this tent will create an ideal base for your weekend adventures. The Icarus provides a place to hide when the weather is poor or a haven to return to after a long day in the sun.

AccessoriesThe Vango Icarus 500 DLX is literally the ideal family tent for a small family of up to 4. It is still okay for a family of 5 though, and of course, the space on offer is more than generous for any group less of 4. It is easy to pitch, comfortable and spacious, making it suitable for beginners and occasional campers. Transport, pitching You could also consider the Eurohike Sendero 6, which you’d think is slightly bigger as a 6-berth tent, but actually, it is not. It is also less expensive than the Vango Icarus 500 DLX. Had a large camp bed in the larger bedroom, actually a fishing bed, which was very comfortable, with clothes and towels. If you haven’t made up your mind yet, it may be worth considering the Coleman Mosedale 5 with similarly good weather protection, although it is a bit more pricy than the Icarus 500.
