About this deal

The rah-rah (or ra-ra) skirt began having a major moment in the 1980s, originating from cheerleading uniforms. The Oxford Dictionary noted this as the first successful miniskirt revival and the rah-rah skirt even appeared on the cover of Time magazine in 1982. German forces had begun evacuating many of the death camps in the fall of 1944, sending inmates under guard to march further from the advancing enemy’s front line. These so-called “death marches” continued all the way up to the German surrender, resulting in the deaths of some 250,000 to 375,000 people. Julia Roberts set a fashion trend wearing a shorter than short skirt and thigh high boots in Pretty Woman. Also, throughout the decade, miniskirts were incorporated into the wardrobes of working women thanks to the influence of TV shows like Melrose Place and Ally McBeal.

The double narrative has a deep structure but is specific, particularly when it comes to time and a split gaze on the narrative itself. [5] The two tales coexist and interweave with the first tale focusing on the crime itself, what led to it, and the investigation to solve it while the second story is all about the reconstruction of the crime. [5] Here, the diegesis or the way the characters live on the inquiry level creates the phantom narration where the objects, bodies, and words become signs for both the detective and the reader to interpret and draw their conclusions from. [5] For instance, in a detective novel, solving a mystery entails the reconstruction of the criminal events. This process, however, also involves on the part of the detective the production of a hypothesis that could withstand scrutiny, including the crafting of findings about cause and motive as well as crime and its intended consequences. [6] This discourse of explanation constitutes the second narrative besides the primary story relating to the crime. [6]If anyone should be credited with pioneering the miniskirt, it is British designer Mary Quant, whoopened what becamethe iconicboutique Bazaarin 1955 on King’s Road in London’s Chelsea neighborhood. Inspired by the fashions she saw on the streets, Quant raised the hemline of her skirts in 1964 to several inches above the knee, and the iconic miniskirt was born. They think about Tim every day. “You are never cured,” says Colin. They are forever thinking what would have been, says Wendy: “It’s upsetting for us now to see his best friends getting married and having their own children. Even our children having their children, you think: ‘That’s the sort of thing Tim’s missed.’ He has missed going on the great family holidays we’ve had, getting married, having children, having a career.” One thing is for sure, says Colin. If Tim had lived, “we wouldn’t have had four grandchildren. We’d have had 10.” Tim, he laughs, might have only been 12, but he was already very interested in girls. By the spring of 1945, German leadership was dissolving amid internal dissent, with Goering and Himmler both seeking to distance themselves from Hitler and take power. In an effort to punish the villains of the Holocaust, the Allies held the Nuremberg Trials of 1945-46, which brought Nazi atrocities to horrifying light. Increasing pressure on the Allied powers to create a homeland for Jewish survivors of the Holocaust would lead to a mandate for the creation of Israel in 1948.

Like the network of concentration camps that followed, becoming the killing grounds of the Holocaust, Dachau was under the control of Heinrich Himmler, head of the elite Nazi guard, the Schutzstaffel (SS) and later chief of the German police. Surrounded by high walls and barbed wire, the Jewish ghettoes in Poland functioned like captive city-states, governed by Jewish Councils. In addition to widespread unemployment, poverty and hunger, overpopulation and poor sanitation made the ghettoes breeding grounds for disease such as typhus. In 1945, when Allied troops entered the concentration camps, they discovered piles of corpses, bones, and human ashes—testimony to Nazi mass murder. Soldiers also found thousands of Jewish and non-Jewish survivors suffering from starvation and disease. For survivors, the prospect of rebuilding their lives was daunting.
