The orange flavour is just right with this one – it’s not artificial or bitter, and it doesn’t overpower the chocolate flavour. I would have liked something a little more different from the standard Carb Killa range than simply the addition of orange flavour – surely if you’re going to call something ‘Jaffa’ you need a jelly layer…

Grenade Protein Bars should be consumed as a part of a balanced diet. Product contains more than 10g/100g polyols: excessive consumption may cause laxative effect. Yet I think this bar could have been majorly improved if the chocolate flavour was more intense – maybe with a chocolate creme instead of the caramel layer – and the crunch was more pronounced. In other words, it would have been improved if it had actually lived up to its name…The milk chocolate coating is, as expected, silky and sweet, whilst the nougat-y base is dark and rich, adding that hint of saltiness so beloved of an Oreo biscuit. Milk Chocolate with Sweetener (25%) (Sweetener; Maltitol; Cocoa Butter, Whole Milk Powder, Cocoa Mass, Emulsifier; Soy Lecithin; Natural Flavouring), Protein Blend (Calcium Caseinate (Milk), Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate (Milk)), Bulking Agent; Polydextrose; Hydrolysed Beef Gelatine, Humectant; Glycerol; Soy Protein, Soy Oil, Low Fat Cocoa, Skimmed Milk Powder, Sweetener; Xylitol, Sucralose; Tapioca Starch, Flavourings, Salt, Sunflower Oil, Emulsifier; Citric Acid Ester; Colour; Beta Carotene.

Whereas the ‘older’ bars all seem to hover around 15-16g, the newer flavours have been consistently up at 18-20g, almost matching the 20-22g protein in each bar. Even so, this is a great addition to the line and I still really enjoyed it. You could say it would have been improved by substituting the caramel layer for peanut butter, but what isn’t improved by adding a bit of peanut butter… Jaffa Quake 8/10

LOW SUGAR, HIGH PROTEIN BARS

Store at a temperature range of 15°C. to 22°C, away from direct sunlight, extremes of heat change, odour & humidity. This bar features a peanut butter flavoured base topped with a gooey strawberry layer and spindled with peanut pieces, then coated in milk chocolate. Protein Blend (Calcium Caseinate (Milk), Whey Protein Isolate (Milk), Hydrolysed Whey Protein Concentrate (Milk)), Dark Chocolate With Sweetener (20%) (Cocoa Mass, Sweetener; Maltitol; Cocoa Butter, Emulsifier; Soy Lecithin; Natural Flavouring), umectant; Glycerol; Water, White Chocolate With Sweetener (Sweetener; Maltitol; Cocoa Butter, Whole Milk Powder, Emulsifier; Soy Lecithin; Natural Flavouring), Cocoa Nibs, Palm Fat, Isomalto-oligosaccharide, Soy Nuggets (Soy Protein Isolate, Cocoa, Tapioca Starch), Natural Flavouring, Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder, Raspberry Powder (Raspberry Concentrate, Maltodextrin), Acidity Regulator; Citric Acid; Sweetener; Sucralose; Red Beet Juice Powder (Maltodextrin, Red Beet Juice Concentrate, Acidity Regulator; Citric Acid) I’m impressed once again, but as I said, fudge brownie is a pretty standard flavour. It’s not my favourite of the bars so far, but it’s absolutely worth a try, if not only for a break from your average protein bar. Dark Chocolate Mint – 8/10
