About this deal

The group used period costumes designed by Vivienne Westwood in their video for "Jilted", an original song written by Marcella Puppini (not to be confused with the 1954 Theresa Brewer country number). Jesse Quin, bassist of the British band Keane appears in the video as extra. The trio started a Pledge Music campaign to crowd fund their new album (along with an optional bonus edition of remixes) with the help of fans. The album was finalised before Christmas 2015 and it was released in March 2016 (Those who donated money to the creation of the album were able to receive the album digitally on 25 February and The Deluxe remix edition on 7 June). Angst? What Angst?: In "The Grinning Man", Joey nearly drowns after falling into a tank filled with the corpses of people that have vanished over 70 years, coming face to face with her dead friend who was the last victim, in a scene that has earned an impassioned entry under Nightmare Fuel on this very Wiki. By the next scene she has completely recovered her composure, and at the end of the episode is looking forward to writing it up in her blog. Brown, David (5 December 2012). Set five years after the previous episode, "Gorgons Wood", "The Grinning Man" begins by introducing the Gothic mansion Metropolis. Since 1938, a number of visitors staying overnight in the mansion's attic "Nightmare Room" have disappeared without a trace. Originally owned by a spiritualist, the mansion is now the property of his grandson, stage magician Lance Gessler (Nicholas Boulton). Gessler lives with his mother, Constance ( Judy Parfitt), his partner Elodie (Jenna Harrison) and their groundskeeper, Glenn ( Ciarán McMenamin). They offer shelter to paranormal investigator Joey Ross and her friend Mina ( Naomi Bentley) when the two are caught in a storm. Mina elects to sleep in the Nightmare Room and has vanished by morning. Constance calls in sleuth Jonathan Creek to investigate Mina's disappearance.

The Grinning Man

The vanished woman, Mina, is a friend of paranormal investigator Joey Ross (played by Sheridan Smith) who will be Jonathan’s new assistant for this story as well as the next two specials. I will save my overall thoughts about the character for my post about her last story but I will say that I really like how she is introduced here and that I think Smith was inspired casting, offering something quite different from either of her predecessors. Guest stars: John Bluthal, Bernard Kay, Maureen O'Brien, Robin Soans, Andrew Powell and Geoffrey Beevers It’s not just that the setup and structure of this mystery are effective – the solution also felt pretty satisfying too. This is partly a case of how it works mechanically but also the circumstances in which the reveal takes place. The realization of what happens brings about an excellent example of a race against time sequence that feels quite genuinely tense and creepy, being realized pretty effectively on screen. Comedy drama following a creator of magical illusions who finds his expertise suited to solving murders and mysteries. Stars Alan Davies, Caroline Quentin, Stuart Milligan, Julia Sawalha, Adrian Edmondson and more. Jonathan Creek is called upon by his friend, investigator Joey Ross, to look into a series of mysterious and spooky events at a house called Green Lanterns. They concern a young girl called Emily – new housekeeper to the famous mystery writer Hugo Doré and his wife, Harriet. But Emily's new role comes with a house that has its own fair share of history and mystery... When Harriet is seen falling from a window, Emily is arrested on suspicion of murder, though she swears she is innocent. Using his powers of deduction and belief that nothing is as it seems, Creek races against time to uncover a number of intriguing clues which lead him to the unbelievable truth and the revealing of one of the greatest acts of illusion he has encountered yet.
