About this deal

Well, to be honest, most people haven’t ever heard of the Streatham Rookery, and those that have mainly live in Streatham but it’s one of the darned prettiest little gardens in South London all the same. Still, the Temple of Mithras is without a doubt the best – thanks to the fact that when you visit you experience a full-on recreation of temple worship complete with dimmed lights, chanting and atmospheric smoke. Tres bizarre. Like the fact that there’s been a market here since the 14th century. At first it was just for butchers and fishmongers (both long gone) before it became one of London’s most important markets.

Shaughan has made two Podcasts based on this walk. Listening to either or both of them will give you an exceptionally good idea of what’s on the menu – what you get on the walk – and how it’s served up, the guiding. Here’s the Hidden London –Podcast 1. And here’s Hidden London – Podcast 2. HIDDEN LONDON TOUR PRACTICALS Our 1st walk this trip. We had a most interesting walk with Shaughan. A wealth of facts shared with us from start to finish. We were brilliantly entertained throughout including several songs and snatches, included. Thank you Shaughan It's almost Autumn in London, and there's nothing better than going for a lovely stroll among the falling leaves. So we've decided to compile a list of the loveliest London walks. Metro Publications is a publishing company with a reputation for producing well researched and beautifully designed guide books on many aspects of London life. Metro guides are popular with visitors to the capital, but detailed enough to appeal to born-and-bred Londoners. We have recently extended our reach, with detailed guides covering cities like Edinburgh, Oxford and Cambridge.Meaning there are six other cemeteries where you can go and get your Victorian gothic, hauntingly beautiful graveside fix (which all sounds a bit wrong really). Chelsea Physic Garden– the oldest botanic garden in London, it opened in 1693 having been set up by the wonderfully named “Worshipful Society of Apothecaries” in 1673. Its position beside the Thames provides it with a favourable microclimate enabling rare and endangered plants to thrive. As a world leader in natural medicine, it hosts over 5000 edible and medicinal plants. Blue plaques high up on the outer walls of buildings tease us with a tiny amount of information about the people who were born, lived, stayed, died, or did something extraordinary there. This book is a fantastic way to find out more about the people celebrated by over 900 plaques all over the city and bring home the fact that you are walking down the same streets that they once did. 3. London Pub Walks, Bob Steel We walked “Little Venice” with Shaughan; excellent! Plenty of varied information to interest everyone! Shaughan’s mix of info and entertainment fantastic! Loved walk so much, we booked “Hidden London” for next day. That too, did not disappoint ! Highly recommend.

Horniman Museum–set in South London’s Forest Hill, The Horniman has spectacular gardens. 16 acres of them in fact. The bandstand is the best spot to admire the awesome views of the museum’s grounds and across London.Once you’re finished in the museums proper, take some time to mooch around the 16 acres of gardens. This former royal palace used to be a favourite until Henry VIII decided he liked his one at Greenwich better and it was sold off during the Commonwealth period before falling into disrepair for centuries. Greenwich is home to so many London landmarks – The Cutty Sark and The Observatory among them – that it can be easy to leave it at that.
